Daniel Defoe was born in 1660(the year of the Restoration of the Monarchy) in London into a Puritan family. He was educated at one of the best Dissenting Academies. Here he studied practical subjects like geography, economics, chemistry and modern languages. In 1703 he was fined, pilloried and imprisoned for satire. He lost his money with his wrong speculations. He served as a spy for Tory and for Whig and he tried to make a fortune, but he didn’t become rich. He bought and sold a great variety of objects. He started to write because he wanted to sell a lot of copies, despite of his books were full of hypocrisies. He wrote “The best way with the dissenters”, a satiric book, which criticized the policy of Anglicanism. At 60 years, he wrote a novel to pay debts. He died, full of debts, in London in 1731.
